Retail Layout Skill

Retail layouts maximize the customer-facing sales floor (60–70% of total area), create a natural flow from entrance through display to checkout, and hide back-of-house operations. Clearance is 150mm.

REFERENCES TO LOAD

  • Always load: references/room_standards.md — minimum sizes for all retail zones
  • Load for worked example: references/example_layout.json — complete retail floor

DOMAIN-SPECIFIC RULES

RULE RT1 — Sales floor dominance. Sales floor MUST be the primary space — 60–70% of total area.

RULE RT2 — Showcase at front. Showcase/display window MUST be at the front near the entrance, filling the building's full width if possible.

RULE RT3 — Checkout near exit. Checkout counter MUST be near the exit for payment before leaving.

RULE RT4 — Trial rooms at back. Trial/fitting rooms should be at the back or side, away from the main entrance. Each needs an individual door (minimum 750mm).

RULE RT5 — Storage adjacent to sales. Storage room MUST be directly adjacent to the sales floor for easy restocking. Needs a solid door for security.

RULE RT6 — Loading at rear. Loading area MUST be at the rear with a separate service entrance (door 2000mm+). Customers should never see the loading area.

RULE RT7 — Office at rear. Office/manager room at the rear, restricted access.

RULE RT8 — Aisle width. Minimum 900mm aisle width between display sections.

RULE RT9 — Open entrance. Sales floor entrance is OPEN — no door between entrance and display area.

UNKNOWN ROOM HANDLING

For unlisted zones (e.g., "VIP lounge", "alteration room"):

  • VIP lounge: 3000×4000mm
  • Alteration room: 2500×3000mm
  • Set estimated: true, add to flagged_estimated_rooms
