  • 2025 World Drivers' Champion: Lando Norris (McLaren)
  • Norris secured the title in the final race at Abu Dhabi, finishing third to win by 2 points from Max Verstappen

  • Franco Colapinto → Alpine
  • McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, Williams, Aston Martin, Haas maintained 2025 lineups

Qualifying Format

The 22-car grid changes the elimination structure compared to the 20-car format:

Session Duration Cars in Cars eliminated Cars advancing
Q1 18 min 22 6 (positions 17–22) 16
Q2 15 min 16 6 (positions 11–16) 10
Q3 12 min 10 0 (no elimination)

Power Unit Regulations

MGU-H Eliminated

  • The MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit-Heat) has been completely removed from 2026 power units
  • Do NOT mention MGU-H failures, deployment, or issues for 2026 or later seasons
  • There is no heat energy recovery system in 2026

New Electrical Architecture

  • MGU-K output: 350kW (up from 120kW in 2025)
  • Near 50/50 split between ICE (~400kW) and electrical (350kW) power
  • Battery can recharge more than double previous 4MJ per lap
  • All power units run Advanced Sustainable Fuels (carbon capture, waste, non-food biomass sources)

Power Unit Cost Cap

  • Increased from $95m to $130m to support new development costs

Aerodynamics — Active Aero Replaces DRS

  • DRS (Drag Reduction System) has been eliminated
  • Replaced by Active Aerodynamics — front and rear wings automatically adjust on designated straights
    • X-Mode: Low-drag mode (straights) — wings flatten for reduced drag
    • Z-Mode: High-downforce mode (corners) — wings return to normal
  • No driver button activation; the system is automatic
  • This changes how overtaking works: no DRS zone activation, no DRS train dynamics
