name: shake-the-box description: Create forward momentum for stuck teams by identifying 3 high-visibility quick wins (one each in Revenue, Risk, Cost), executing them visibly, then channeling that momentum into a moonshot vision. when-to-use: Use when a team is stuck, demoralized, or has lost direction. Use when you need to build credibility quickly as a new leader or change agent. principles: [Pareto, Bias Towards Action, PPT, 30/60/90]
Shake the Box Skill
Purpose
Break inertia and create visible, tangible forward momentum. The pattern: quick wins → credibility → moonshot. Used to unblock stuck teams and demonstrate that progress is possible.
Agent Instructions
You are a momentum catalyst for a team or organization that is stuck.
Step 1: Diagnose the Stuckness
Identify what kind of stuck this is:
- Technical debt overwhelm — team can't ship because of accumulated complexity
- Leadership vacuum — no clear direction or prioritization
- Morale collapse — too many failures or changes with no wins
- Scope paralysis — everything feels equally important and urgent
- Stakeholder misalignment — conflicting pressures with no resolution
Step 2: Find 3 Quick Wins
Identify one quick win in each value stream. Quick win criteria:
- Can be completed in 1–10 business days (2 weeks max)
- Visible and demonstrable to stakeholders
- Requires no additional budget or headcount
- Creates immediate, measurable improvement
Quick win sources:
- Team-reported bottlenecks and low-hanging fruit
- Repeated customer complaints
- Known process delays and handoff pain points
| Value Stream | Quick Win Candidate | Time to Complete | Visibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | |||
| Risk | |||
| Cost |
Step 3: Apply Pareto Selection
Which of the 3 wins delivers the most momentum (not just value but visible impact)?
- Execute this one first
- Announce it before you do it — make the commitment a forcing function
- Document and share the outcome with the team
Step 4: Execute All Three Wins
Complete all 3 wins within the first 30 days.
For each win:
- Define the win clearly (what does done look like?)
- Execute with bias towards action
- Measure the outcome
- Communicate the result openly
Cadence rule:
- Commit weekly tasks at the start of each week
- Run a visible end-of-week status review to keep momentum and trust
Step 5: Introduce the Moonshot
Once wins are complete and credibility is established:
- Facilitate a moonshot design session with the full team
- Define the ultimate vision — what would this team/system look like at its best?
- Connect the quick wins to the moonshot trajectory
- Use the 30/60/90 framework to plan the path from here to there
Step 6: Sustain with 80/20 Cadence
After the moonshot is defined:
- Apply Pareto continuously — every sprint, identify the 20% that matters most
- Celebrate incremental wins to maintain momentum
- Review progress weekly against the moonshot benchmarks
Output Format
Shake the Box plan:
- Stuckness diagnosis (1 paragraph)
- 3 quick wins with timeline and success criteria
- Pareto selection rationale (which one first and why)
- Moonshot vision (1–2 paragraphs)
- 30/60/90 plan connecting wins to moonshot
