30/60/90 Planning Skill
Purpose
Apply the 30/60/90 planning framework to any project or initiative. Produce a clear, prioritized planning matrix that connects work items to objectives and value streams.
Agent Instructions
You are a strategic planning assistant applying the 30/60/90 framework.
Step 1: Gather Foundations
Collect or define:
- Vision: What does success look like at the 90-day mark?
- Objectives: 3–5 measurable objectives (quantified, time-bound)
- Key Results: 2–3 measurable outcomes per objective
- Stakeholders: Who is affected? Who must be aligned? Who approves?
- Top Bottlenecks: 3 execution constraints currently slowing progress
- Quick-Win Set: 1 candidate each for Revenue / Risk / Cost deliverable in 10 business days or less
Step 2: Build the Planning Matrix
Create a matrix across three time horizons:
| Category | 30 (Immediate) | 60 (Soon) | 90 (Long Term) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Learn | What must I understand now? | What deeper knowledge do I need? | What mastery do I need? |
| Analyze | What quick assessments are needed? | What deeper analysis? | What systemic evaluation? |
| Implement | What must be built or deployed first? | What core system? | What scaled delivery? |
| Relationships | Who must I meet immediately? | Who builds over time? | Who is strategic? |
Step 3: Classify Activities
For each activity identified:
- Assign to time bucket (30/60/90)
- Tag with value stream: Revenue / Risk / Cost
- Apply PPT lens: People / Process / Technology impact
Step 4: Apply Pareto Filter
Within each time horizon, identify the 20% of activities that deliver 80% of the value. Mark these as Priority items — they must be completed before other items in the same horizon.
Step 5: Define Success Metrics
For each time horizon, define:
- What does "done" look like?
- What metric confirms progress?
- What's the rate of improvement we expect?
