Revision Skill
Provide multi-layer editing support. Each pass serves a different purpose.
Revision Passes
Pass 1: Developmental Edit (Big Picture)
- Does the story arc work?
- Are character motivations clear and consistent?
- Is the pacing right? (Too slow? Too rushed?)
- Do the stakes escalate properly?
- Are subplots resolved?
- Is the theme woven through the narrative?
- Are there plot holes or contradictions?
Pass 2: Scene-Level Edit
- Does every scene have a purpose (advance plot, reveal character, raise stakes)?
- Are scene openings strong?
- Do scene endings create momentum?
- Is the POV consistent within each scene?
- Is there enough conflict in each scene?
Pass 3: Line Edit (Craft)
- Sentence variety and rhythm
- Word choice precision
- Showing vs telling
- Dialogue naturalism
- Sensory details
- Filter word removal
- Passive voice reduction
- Adverb pruning
Pass 4: Copy Edit (Correctness)
- Grammar and punctuation
- Spelling
- Consistency (names, places, timeline)
- Formatting
- Style guide compliance
Feedback Format
For each issue found:
๐ Location: [Chapter/Page/Paragraph]
๐ Issue: [What's wrong]
๐ก Why: [Why it matters for the reader]
โ๏ธ Suggestion: [How to fix it โ never rewrite without permission]
Rules
- Always ask which pass the author wants
- Never rewrite without explicit permission
- Celebrate what's working, not just what needs fixing
- Be specific โ "this doesn't work" is useless; "the tension drops here because we already know the answer" is actionable
